Here are the Fifteen Acts of self-processing oriented to the rehabilitation of self-determinism. Moreover, this book contains several essays giving the most expansive description of the Ideal State of Man. Discover why behavior patterns become so solidly fixed; why habits seemingly can’t be broken; how decisions long ago have more power over a person than his decisions today; and why a person keeps past negative experiences in the present. It’s all clearly laid out on the Chart of Attitudes—a milestone breakthrough that complements the Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation—plotting the ideal state of being and one’s attitudes and reactions to life. In self-processing, “Handbook for Preclears” is used in conjunction with “Self Analysis.”
Handbook for Preclears is the legendary self-processing manual that marks the transition from the subject of Dianetics to Scientology. Here are the breakthroughs that revealed the phenomenon of the LIFE CONTINUUM—a mechanism by which every individual takes on the disabilities of the deceased or departed, until they are no longer living their own life. Here, then, are the answers to getting rid of all those parts of “you” that aren’t really YOU. The book includes:
- Expansive essays providing the most complete description of The Ideal State of Man
- The Goals of Man, and why his survival depends upon the conquest of the physical universe
- The Human Mind, how it operates and its underlying purpose
- The Control Center, the “awareness of awareness” unit of the mind, and how it is CAUSE of the body and environment
- The Hubbard Chart of Attitudes, a milestone breakthrough that complements the Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation, which explains one’s reactions to life
- The Fifteen Acts of self-processing that move an individual from EFFECT to CAUSE—processes so powerful that this book is now known as the book of miracles
- And, the Definitions, Logics and Axioms providing the very basis of the study of knowledge and the underlying truths of what life itself is doing
In self-processing, “Handbook for Preclears” is used in conjunction with “Self Analysis.”
What is Scientology? What is the practical application of Scientology for the average man in the street? How can Scientology help people overcome their problems? Why is Man on this planet and what is his purpose here?
Such are the questions posed by millions and, in this rare filmed interview, L. Ron Hubbard provided the answers: what drove his quest to help Mankind, his hard-won discoveries providing the long-sought answers to the riddles of the mind and life, and how he forged a route to accomplish new states of beingness and happiness—here it is as Mr. Hubbard himself explained it to the world.
Meet the man who founded a new religion in the atomic age, a religion that now spans the globe, a religion changing the face of Earth, a religion where science and religion finally meet and so…a religion that could only have been called Scientology.
I have lived no cloistered life and hold in contempt the wise man who has not lived and the scholar who will not share.
There have been many wiser men than I, but few have traveled as much road.
I have seen life from the top down and the bottom up. I know how it looks both ways. And I know there is wisdom and that there is hope. —L. Ron Hubbard
This exclusive interview with L. Ron Hubbard was filmed in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), in May 1966 by Rhodesian Television.
Mr. Hubbard had traveled to Rhodesia from his home in southern England earlier that year to continue his Scientology research towards the highest levels of spiritual awareness.
Then, as now, Scientology was expanding at a phenomenal pace, and regularly bannered across international headlines.
L. Ron Hubbard granted this interview to explain how he arrived at his discoveries on the mind, spirit and life and to answer those most commonly asked questions: What is Scientology? Why is it a religion? And how do people benefit from it?
Here, then, is that insightful and candid 1966 interview with the founder of the fastest-growing religion in the world—Scientology.
With new breakthroughs on the nature and anatomy of engrams comes the discovery of the being’s use of a Service Facsimile: a mechanism employed to explain away failures in life, but which then locks a person into detrimental patterns of behavior and further failure. And with that comes the technology of Advanced Procedure and the means to rehabilitate Self-Determinism.
In this book you’ll find:
- The description and interrelationships of Thought, Emotion and Effort
- The Fifteen Acts of Advanced Procedure
- The Five Types of Cases—how to spot and handle them
- The Emotional Curve—what causes it to drop or rise in one’s life and how its resolution unlocks one’s ability
- Effort Processing—the breakthrough technology which ended the “lived only once theory,” revealing the entire past track of Man and the full chain of genetic evolution
- Full Responsibility—in a single chapter so legendary, it marked the change from Effect to Cause and, hence, the route to true freedom
- The Logics, a system of thinking and postulates pertaining to the organizational structure of alignment of data
- And the Axioms, containing the codification of the mind and life itself
Here, then, is the book which reveals how each and every aberration of the mind and body has an initial postulate to be so aberrated. And within these pages, you’ll find out how to discover those long ago decisions, conclusions, evaluations and computations which made you the effect…of your own cause.
L. Ron Hubbard had delivered five ACCs at a scorching pace: 317 lectures in 147 days. Despite increased auditor skill, none could match his results. Seeking why, Mr. Hubbard made a crucial discovery—Duplication. “Auditors can’t duplicate. What do you mean, duplicate? That’s just, do the same as. That’s all. Can’t do it. What’s the matter with cases? They can’t duplicate.” Not only is duplication the basic action of existence, but its failure is the primary degeneration of a thetan. Thus Mr. Hubbard taught the solution in Procedure 30, comprising three processes: Problems and Solutions, Granting of Beingness and Opening Procedure by Duplication. Moreover, he also delivered an overview of theory, principles and mechanics: Definitions of Scientology, with their practical application in processing, Three Levels of Healing with ways to handle individuals in pain, how to audit easy cases (auditors meet many) and a demonstration of the Grand Tour. As training, ACC students attended the Universe Processes Congress where L. Ron Hubbard broadly released these breakthroughs. And, reaching into the community, he launched “Operation Phoenix,” with auditors ministering in homes and hospitals, resulting in miracle case histories—the lame walking, the blind seeing, and more.
Duplication is tremendously important. Tremendously important. It just can’t be overemphasized in a case. —L. Ron Hubbard
It was now May 1954. L. Ron Hubbard had delivered the first five ACCs at a scorching pace: 317 lectures and Group Processing sessions in 147 days, back to back. Auditing results continued to climb. Yet, given the magnitude of the task that lay ahead—the clearing of a planet—he had a greater target in view. For the results he routinely could obtain on preclears, no matter their state of case, continued to surpass those achieved by other auditors. The question remained, therefore: What technology were those auditors not fully applying? Or, phrasing the question another way, what was Mr. Hubbard doing that those auditors were omitting?
That was the challenge L. Ron Hubbard faced as the 6th American Advanced Clinical Course began on May 10, 1954, once again at 616 North 3rd Street, Phoenix. And from the point he found the answer, neither auditing nor training were ever quite the same. In fact, the discovery represented something so basic that it would reverberate through all subsequent advances in the training of auditors and the development of processes.
The answer was—Duplication.
As Mr. Hubbard described it,
“Auditors can’t duplicate. What do you mean, duplicate? That’s just, do the same as. That’s all. Can’t do it.
“What’s the matter with cases? They can’t duplicate.”
For, as he stated,
“The basic action of existence is duplication.”
“Inability to duplicate on any dynamic is the primary degeneration of a thetan.”
And, most important in regard to auditing, perception depends on duplication, communication depends on duplication, and erasure occurs through duplication. Or, to give it an even more fundamental expression, no being can go free unless he is able to duplicate.
As to why duplication had proved problematic for auditors and preclears, it is no less than the discovery of an axiom as revealed in SOP 8-C:
“In the mest universe, the single crime is duplication.”
The immediate solution, released by Mr. Hubbard to a select group of auditors attending the 6th ACC, was called Procedure 30. It actually consisted of three processes: Problems and Solutions, Granting of Beingness and what was soon to become one of the most famous in all of Scientology, Opening Procedure by Duplication.
Procedure 30’s immediate and obvious benefit was in speed of auditing: per L. Ron Hubbard’s estimate, the amount of time saved was in terms of scores, if not hundreds, of hours.
Yet if this remarkable ACC is renowned for the release of Procedure 30—capable of accelerating preclear gains into the stratosphere and multiplying the numbers who could receive those gains—it also included something embracive of all Scientology. Because, now from a perspective of everything that had been accomplished since the start of the first ACC in October 1953, Mr. Hubbard delivered a comprehensive overview of the theory, principles and mechanics of Scientology fundamentals, mid-1954, including:
- Definitions of Scientology—their practical application in processing;
- Interpersonal Relations—how they are based upon the ARC Triangle;
- Imagination—why there is a direct coordination between the amount of free imagination an individual has and his ability to use his mind;
- Three Levels of Healing—ways to handle an individual in pain;
- Capabilities of a Thetan—how to handle very easy cases, as auditors meet lots of them;
- Affinity, Reality and Communication—ARC and the Tone Scale with respect to exteriorization, bodies and universes;
- Energy Knocker-Offer—processes to improve perceptions for a thetan who has exteriorized;
- Grand Tour—its purpose and application, including a full auditing demonstration on a preclear.
And if these technical advances reflected the highest levels of processing and beingness, without breaking stride and yet seemingly stretching time itself—Mr. Hubbard’s ground level programs were just as unrelenting.
First, to provide all Scientologists these latest breakthroughs, and in the midst of this ACC, he delivered the Universe Processes Congress, releasing the first Group Auditor’s Handbook and delivering these most up-to-date breakthroughs as Group Processing—even including Opening Procedure by Duplication.
Then, reaching out across the local community he launched “Operation Phoenix,” with ACC students—now Scientology Ministers—visiting local hospitals and homes to deliver the latest processing to invalids and the then rampant cases of polio victims. And all of it resulting in case histories that stand today as miracles—no less than the lame soon walking, the blind now seeing.
With all the above to fill his days and nights, L. Ron Hubbard nonetheless kept the security and the growth of Scientology at the forefront. To that end, the HAS in Phoenix became the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International, now working in partnership with HASI London to forward the global dissemination of Scientology. And as soon became clear—those advances were about to dovetail in the 7th ACC which would culminate in what stands as the very foundation of Scientology today.
By the mere fact of people looking at this truth, finding these things were true, applying these things and achieving a higher state of existence, you would inevitably get—whether anybody said you would or not—a calmer life, a calmer environment, a calmer civilization. —L. Ron Hubbard
In the 1960s, despite the intensity of upper-level research, L. Ron Hubbard set the criteria for an entirely new philosophy intended to introduce anyone to Scientology. It would require no address to the person’s mind and, hence, no auditing. Yet its benefits must be swift, lasting, and so noticeable to the individual he would immediately recognize truth.
The result was Scientology Zero—the solutions to the dangerous environment. Here is a technology to increase a person’s physical well-being, activity level and mental alertness. In a lecture preeminent as Mr. Hubbard’s classic statement on the subject, he details Scientology Zero in full, revealing a basic discovery that led to its development. One can turn the tables on the Merchants of Chaos, for the very avidity with which they “sell” a dangerous environment can actually be used to forward the startling and magical gains Scientology Zero can bring.
A self-contained body of technology, Scientology Zero places in the hands of every Scientologist an indispensable tool to assist anyone they meet. By its use alone, one can increase intelligence and judgment, restore personal security and, in sum, deliver life-changing wins that far exceed an individual’s expectations.
Freedom of truth is something Man has not been noted for. He’s not been noted for this at all. He’s been noted quite the contrary for a slavery of something somebody said was true. And that is a vastly different thing than freedom of truths. —L. Ron Hubbard
Every human being seeks to know the truth about himself and to resolve to his own satisfaction the mysteries of life. And therefore, for many thousands of years, countless philosophical and religious teachings have sought to enlighten people with answers. But where their practitioners insisted—indeed, demanded—that their answers must be the answers, they blocked the road to greater freedom for millions of people. For as history tells, to force an individual to accept a truth instead of permitting him to find truth is a road not to freedom, but to slavery of thought and belief.
In this classic statement on the individual’s search for truth, L. Ron Hubbard therefore delineates the central principles that make Scientology different—the principles whereby each person engages in his own personal search to discover truth. As individuals continue on this unique quest of exploration and adventure, they acquire new insights and understandings until their fundamental questions about themselves and life are resolved to their full satisfaction. And increasingly, as they travel that road, they attain the lasting freedom that can only come from knowing what is true for them.
What is life? From holiest of temples to everyday streets, it is a question long asked, but never answered. In this Congress, L. Ron Hubbard presents the surprising resolution—all stemming from his groundbreaking research into a subject deceptively irrelevant at first glance, but factually embracing the whole of existence— Life is a game! For notwithstanding the slings and arrows of life, the reason for living and the reason for a game are the same. And whether baseball, polo or chess—by studying the elements of games, we find ourselves in possession of the elements of life. Here, then, are the components: freedom, barriers and purposes, and the exact factors determining a “game” and a “no-game condition.” He further details the four types of games—including those the being doesn’t know he’s playing—the basis of all aberration. Through lecture after lecture Mr. Hubbard lays out the application of games principles to all life—from individuals, groups and societies to revelations on why a thetan loves problems and, hence, the approach in auditing to not only improve one’s ability to play the game, but to achieve truth itself. So groundbreaking were these discoveries, they also formed the very core of what else L. Ron Hubbard released at this Congress: Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought—a book he forevermore called, “Book One of Scientology.”
There could be a thousand reasons why life is being lived. There could be a thousand patterns on which life is being constantly redesigned. But the one which delivers to us the best results, the one which stands the test, is Games Theory. And none of the others do. —L. Ron Hubbard
What is life? A simple enough question. Yet in 1956, through the course of his relentless research, L. Ron Hubbard spoke of filling page after page with possible answers…until he had listed some five hundred potential patterns of life. And only one, the least likely of all, proved out. Thus, the conclusion—deceptive in that it seemed irrelevant, yet altogether surprising in that it was completely pervasive: Life is a game.
And with that news spreading through the Scientology world, with a promise of even more, it was no surprise when the Games Congress drew the largest gathering of Scientologists to date. It commenced on a holiday weekend of August 31, 1956. And while Washington DC’s Shoreham Hotel had previously seen a Scientology Congress, this one was different—requiring the vast and ornate Main Ballroom to accommodate the more than 400 attendees. And that’s not counting the six-foot “Mama and Papa” dummies with which Mr. Hubbard demonstrated Group Processing between his first description and dissection of Games.
Soon the elements and rules of that game took shape: freedom, barriers, purposes—applicable to any game; The conditions defining a “game,” among them: identity, opponents, motion and emotion; Those which define a “no-game,” including: solutions, serenity and no-motion; The elements of “control”—start, change and stop; The role an individual plays in a game—self-determined or pan-determined; And even the factor of knowingly or unknowingly playing a game.
But regardless of what, where and how one played, the basic rules were always the same and they explained the shape of life itself.
And therein lay the essence of what else L. Ron Hubbard was to present: The first edition of Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought, the book he would forevermore refer to as “Book One of Scientology.”
Here, then, are the watershed lectures on the underlying reason why every earlier quest for answers failed, the discovery of why a thetan loves problems and, in turn, a brand-new approach to auditing not only to improve one’s ability to play the game, but to achieve truth itself.
Right now what we’ve got to do is to carry forward far enough, as individuals, beyond the first milestone, so that some of the actual native goals of Man can be realized in this universe. And we can do it, because every doubt which you have right this minute is just an aberration. Anything which is fighting you at this moment is within you. There is nothing—fire, swords, police, national governments, economic systems—none of these things could stop Man once he started. And what we’re trying to do is start Man. —L. Ron Hubbard
By early 1952, Mr. Hubbard’s investigations had led him to an altogether new view of human history. This trail of discovery began in the summer following the release of Dianetics, sparked by auditors’ reports that preclears were contacting incidents which could only be explained in terms of past lives.
“The further one investigated,” he wrote, “the more one came to understand that here, in this creature Homo sapiens, were entirely too many unknowns.”
Through the ensuing twenty months, L. Ron Hubbard carefully investigated those unknowns, corroborating his own research findings with information supplied by auditors in the field. Of paramount importance in this investigation was the development and use of the first E-Meter, enabling him to uncover and map long-hidden incidents and, in turn, leading to the startling discovery that life force, or theta, had its own time track, independent of a body and extending back millions of years. Moreover, as he also discovered, certain incidents on this theta line were common to all cases.
In consequence, a new and revolutionary picture of Man emerged, not as a limited flesh-and-bone animal, but as an immortal being whose roots stretched back to the very beginning of time. As Mr. Hubbard said at the time, “Finding out where Man came from, finding out where he is going, finding out why he knows what he knows and what he’s trying to do is, of course, the greatest adventure that Man can have.”
A Western Union telegram received at the Wichita, Kansas, Foundation offices gave no hint of that adventure to come. “Am giving a series of lectures,” it simply stated, “as the Professional Course tapes, beginning Mar 3. This series to cover the whole of Dianetics as it exists to date.” But the gathered students knew they were moving into new territory when L. Ron Hubbard began the first lecture with six words that would change the world forever: “This is a course in Scientology.”
Thus began the first course ever given on this brand-new subject. And, in the more than twenty lectures that comprise this series, he not only described Scientology, its vast scope and where it was headed, he detailed whole track discoveries, exploring in depth one particular incident common to all beings—an incident diabolical enough to extinguish OT abilities and degrade a race of powerful thetans. He called it Facsimile One.
By course’s end, what lay before the graduates were wide-open horizons. The lie of “one life” had been vanquished. As Mr. Hubbard said, “It’s like taking a condemned man out of a cell and saying, ‘There’s sunlight!’”
Here, then, is the genesis of Scientology and, with it, the means to give Man an unshakable certainty of his own true spiritual nature.
Containing discoveries heralded as greater than the wheel or fire, Dianetics has remained a bestseller for more than 50 years. And with over 20 million copies in print, generating a movement that spans over 100 nations, it’s indisputably the most widely read and influential book ever written about the human mind.
Here is the anatomy and full description of the reactive mind, the previously unknown source of nightmares, unreasonable fears, upsets and insecurities which enslave Man. This book shows you how to get rid of it, and so achieve something Man has previously only dreamed of: the State of Clear.
Among the discoveries herein:
- The Goal of Man
- The Dynamic Principle of Existence—the one word that motivates all living things
- The Four Dynamics—the drives upon which all of life is compartmented
- The Descriptic Graph of Survival—revealing one’s true potential and how to achieve it
- The discovery of and complete anatomy of the reactive mind
- The painful experiences—engrams—contained in the reactive mind which command one to act irrationally against their own wishes and goals
- The impact of prenatal engrams—what took place before you were born and how it’s influenced you ever since
- The complete Dianetics procedure to discover and eradicate these harmful experiences so they never affect you again, revealing the one person you’ve always wanted to know—you.
Designated by L. Ron Hubbard as the Book One of Scientology. After having fully unified and codified the subjects of Dianetics and Scientology came the refinement of their fundamentals. Originally published as a résumé of Scientology for use in translations into non-English tongues, this book is of inestimable value to both the beginner and advanced student of the mind, spirit and life. Equipped with this book alone, one can begin a practice and perform seeming miracle changes in the states of well-being, ability and intelligence of people. Contained within are the Conditions of Existence, Eight Dynamics, ARC Triangle, Parts of Man, the full analysis of Life as a Game, and more, including exact processes for individual application of these principles in processing. Here, then, in one book, is the starting point for bringing Scientology to people everywhere.
For thousands of years Man has searched, pondered and speculated about the true “meaning of life.” But, in Scientology, that search has culminated—for the secret has now been discovered. Based on precision Axioms (self-evident truths), these are the answers—answers you’ve been looking for, answers that work.
Here, then, is the Basic Book on the Theory and Practice of Scientology, with discoveries embracing every aspect of life, including:
- The Cycle-of-Action, revealing what underlies the continuous cycle of creation, survival and destruction—a cycle that seems inevitable in life, but which is only an apparency
- The Conditions-of-Existence that comprise all life and livingness—and by which one can truly Be
- The Eight Dynamics upon which all life is compartmented and by which one can resolve the puzzle of their own existence
- The Affinity, Reality and Communication Triangle, revealing and explaining the underlying principles of true human relations
- The Parts of Man, the comprehensive explanation of Spirit, Mind and Body, their anatomy and interrelationship in every being
- The Reason Why, answering the questions of “what it’s all about” and giving the very elements of survival, happiness and life itself
- Scientology Processes that unlock the life force that is you
And, with this book, you won’t just “learn”—you’ll discover these principles for yourself. Because this is Scientology—the knowledge of you.
